This course provides the student leaders with the necessary project management skills and knowledge needed to organize events and students on the Carondelet campus to create a positive school climate. In addition, the students will be asked to explore the social, economic, and ethical situations within our community and the ways in which they may help influence these in a positive manner. Ninth grade students will be appointed to council positions. Tenth, 11th, 12th grade students will be appointed or elected to positions.
Note: 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade councils meets during 0 period twice per week.
Experiential Learning through Internships

Carondelet offers select students the opportunity to participate in semester-long internship programs for elective credit. These structured experiential learning opportunities allow students to gain valuable real-world experience while earning academic credit toward graduation.
Students can apply for internship positions in various fields, working under the guidance of experienced mentors. Each internship placement is designed to provide hands-on experience and professional skill development in a real-world setting.

HFCE First Steps

For students who are identified on entry as needing extra time to develop their academic level. This class would be taken in place of Conceptual Physics or Modern Language based on HSPT scores and transcript review. The course that is replaced will be taken in Sophomore year.
This class is designed to help students prepare for and take on the challenges of high school. The course is designed to help students build a toolbox of strategies and habits of the mind to improve their learning effectiveness, attitudes, and motivation. The following are part of the curriculum: time management, concentration, note-taking skills, textbook study methods, test-taking strategies, and critical thinking skills. The course will further focus on identified gaps in learning specific to reading comprehension.
NOTE: This course is graded on an EP/PR scale. There are a few Carondelet courses that employ the use of the Proficient (PR) / Emerging Proficient (EP) grading system. Courses that use this system are designed to foster a growth mindset and allow students to explore new perspectives, skills, and concepts. Students who demonstrate proficiency in the subject will earn a PR (proficient) and students who are still developing proficiency within the course will earn an EP (emerging proficient.) For more information about how the PR/EP system works within a specific class’s scope, please refer to the course syllabus. A student receiving an EP in a course will have to take another course to demonstrate proficiency and meet graduation requirements.

This course provides the student leaders with the necessary project management skills and knowledge needed to organize events and students on the Carondelet campus to create a positive school climate. Ninth grade students will be appointed to ASB council positions through an interview process. Tenth, 11th, 12th grade students will be appointed or elected to positions in ASB, Class Council, Green Team, or Spiritual Life Council.

The Service Leadership course uses the Jefferson Awards Students in Action curriculum to help students develop as leaders, set goals for improving their communities, engage others in service, and have a positive, measurable impact on the world. Student can expect to learn the skills of fundraising, marketing, media relations, proposal writing, project management, and impact documentation by coordinating several high-visibility, schoolwide, and community-wide service projects and events.
