Community Service and Advocacy

As a school devoted to forming women of courage who advocate for a more socially just world, the Service and Advocacy programming at Carondelet High School invites students to work towards “justice, solidarity, and the flourishing of all God’s people”.

The Service and Advocacy programming empowers students to see themselves as part of the CSJ congregation of today called to continue responding to the sign of the times. Fr. Jean Pierre Medaille SJ called this the Little Design. Fr. Medaille and the Founding Sisters knew that, in time, their congregation would not be limited to vowed Catholic sisters. It will be made of numerous small communities inspired by the sisters, like Carondelet High School, to work towards God’s dream that all may be one. The world will know who Carondelet graduates are by their love and service of the dear neighbor without distinction.

In Carondelet’s Little Design of our Service and Advocacy programming, students are invited to…

  1. Find balance in their life. We provide opportunities to step away from the business of day to day life.
  2. Expand their worldview. We provide opportunities to engage in new experiences and learn from diverse perspectives.
  3. Direct their hearts towards love. We provide opportunities to experience God in new ways, particularly through relationships with one another and the dear neighbor.
  4. Explore God’s call. We provide opportunities to discern one’s purpose in creating a socially just world.

Service Opportunities

Through clubs or a Cougar Service Project, students have the opportunity to collaborate with their peers and gather together to serve the local community. Students eager to volunteer in the community are encouraged to view the Service Opportunities page to learn about local agencies that students frequently partner with. Students are also encouraged to log their hours on Mobileserve to become eligible for service awards and membership to honors societies.

Advocacy, Justice, and Immersions

Students who are interested in justice and advocacy are welcome to participate in our Ven a Ver program, where students travel across the country to encounter and learn about social justice issues. Within the curriculum, the Frosh and Junior grade levels have dedicated immersion experiences where they will learn about nearby agencies that serve the vulnerable in our community.
