Our Educational Technology office empowers faculty and staff to be educational leaders and our students to be tech-savvy, discerning, and compassionate young women.
Carondelet has been operating in a 1:1 environment for many years. We currently require all students to come to class with their school-issued iPad which provide access to a variety of content creation and notetaking apps that give students complete mobility. The iPads further give students an ideal platform to access their digital textbooks and be connected real-time to Schoology, our school’s learning management system.
iPad & Textbook Policies
Each class has a different iPad policy. Please click the appropriate section below for your student’s iPad policy.
Welcome to Carondelet High School! We are excited to partner with you and your daughter on this great adventure. We are pleased to provide you with more information about our iPad and textbook program. Incoming 9th-grade students and incoming transfer students pay a one-time tech fee.
The tech fee charged does not cover the actual costs of what students receive. The program is subsidized by Carondelet because the tech fee covers the cost of student iPad, various iPad applications, text books, and class-required subscriptions and platforms. The iPad device program is an integral part of our digital textbook program and it is important for us to ensure that all students are able to access the learning tools they need. This program further allows families to push off the need to equip their daughter with a laptop as they get older and enter courses that mirror the college experience.
Program logistics and family’s responsibilities
The Carondelet iPad remains the property of the school. Before receiving the device, families will be asked to sign a lease contract that specifies all terms of the program. Upon graduation, the device will become the property of your daughter.
We will equip your daughter with the latest iPad generation that she will need to bring to Carondelet each day. The iPad will give her the ability to leverage many resources in all of her classes. The iPad is considered to be an organizational tool that provides students with:
- access to textbooks, online learning platforms and Schoology,
- organizational and study materials (email, note-taking apps, calendar management, apps to support learning, studying, and provide vehicles that support collaboration).
- support for content-creation options (video, document creation, online research).
The device is NOT intended to be a duplicate cell phone or gaming tool. While they are a student of Carondelet, the device will have restrictions and lockdowns that will limit a student’s ability to use the device for personal purposes.
The devices are distributed at the May placement testing date which is mandatory for all incoming Freshmen.
Part of your lease agreement includes responsibilities to keep the device safe. We highly recommend that students protect their iPads with a case. Please note iPad models are different sizes and require the correctly sized case (the newest device available is the 10.2” iPad (9th generation - tech specs here). Carondelet’s online store sells an approved iPad case with essential corner protection. If you select to buy one on your own, please note, cases should have some shock-absorbing qualities and protect corners. The case should also have a cover to protect the screen when the device is not being used. (Otterbox, Youmaker, Torras all provide the essential corner protection and have been popular among our students). Please remember your daughter’s iPad will most likely be in a backpack, so choose your case accordingly.
A quality stylus that facilitates handwriting is required. The original Apple Pencil (1st generation) works with the 10.2” iPad and is well-liked by students who use them. Please note the 2nd generation Apple pencil does not pair with the 10.2” iPad. Generally, there are three levels of styluses. The Apple Pencil (1st Generation) provides the most functionality and is recommended for students that may take art/creative courses. This device pairs with the iPad and provides pressure-sensitive response and angled shading with appropriate applications. A second option are non-name-brand powered styluses as these pair with the iPad to provide distinct recognition between writing with the stylus and scrolling with one’s finger. Finally, a non-powered stylus (Meko) will suffice for basic course requirements. Many students have found that an optional small external keyboard helps with essays and other typed assignments.
Carondelet will pre-load the iPad with apps that will give your daughter the basic academic tools needed for classroom and project-based learning. In Frosh Wellness students will spend time learning how to use the device and apps to support learning as well as setting up and personalizing their new device. Special training will be provided in August and January for all transfer students.
Please note that although this is not a “tech department tool,” your daughter will also need a graphing calculator for her Mathematics classes. The math department currently supports the HP Prime G2 and any model of the Texas Instruments TI-84 calculators. Students are not limited to these options and can choose any calculator with graphing capabilities if desired. As she will use this calculator for all 4 years at Carondelet, and potentially beyond, please consider the calculator requirements for the ACT and SAT.
If you have questions about the iPad program, please feel free to email me. I look forward to an exciting year.
Sincerely
Elizabeth Chaponot, Ph.D.

Students will need to bring an iPad or laptop (Mac or PC) to class everyday. We have seen that many students find a laptop useful as they enter classes that more closely mirror the college experience. If an iPad is chosen, it must meet the following specifications:
- iPad 6th generation or later, with a minimum of 32GB. The cellular option is not necessary. iPad Pros are acceptable. Please note that the iPad Mini does not meet our specifications.
- Your daughter will need to protect her iPad with an appropriate case, protecting both the screen and the corners. Please remember your daughter’s iPad will most likely be in a backpack so choose your case accordingly.
- A list of apps that need to be loaded onto the iPad will be provided prior to tech training.
Students will receive e-texts, access to digital platforms, and some print novels. During the summer, we will be emailing your daughter with information and instructions to gain access to her resources. If there are any issues, your student should see Ms. Koski in the Library.
’26 students transferring into Carondelet should follow the policy for incoming ’27 students.
Our 1:1 iPad program will continue for the 2023-24 school year. Each student will retain her school-issued iPad. There is no additional technology fee.
