The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. For high school students, FERPA ensures that:
- Control Over Records: Students and their parents have the right to review and request changes to the student’s educational records if they believe the information is inaccurate or misleading.
- Privacy Protection: Schools must have written permission from the parent or eligible student (students over 18) before sharing educational records with outside parties, except in certain circumstances like emergencies or legal obligations.
- Transparency: Parents and students can expect clear communication from their school regarding how their information is stored and used.
FERPA empowers students and their families to stay informed and in control of their educational information, ensuring privacy and accuracy as they navigate their academic journey. Learn more about FERPA here.
To request the release of records, please complete the records release form. Additional documentation may be required before records can be shared with external agencies.
