A unique, blended approach to single-sex education
Classes at Carondelet are single-sex and located on the Carondelet campus, for the first two years of the high school curriculum. This allows our girls to find their voices; at Carondelet they have center stage, and they learn to speak out and advocate for themselves from the day they start school.
The benefits of single sex education are clearly documented; research shows that the graduates of all-girls high schools show higher levels of community engagement, social activism, and academic self-confidence in college.
The junior and senior year are blended; after the first two years, Carondelet girls share classes with boys from De La Salle, the Catholic boys’ school adjacent to Carondelet. Our students have access to the course offerings at De La Salle, and DLS students take classes at Carondelet. This gives our students experience in co-educational classrooms and a wider variety of class options.
A personalized education in the CSJ tradition
At the heart of this sisterhood is our Catholic tradition, rooted in the mission of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph (CSJ): to create an inclusive environment that embraces all students, welcomes diversity, and values social justice, empathy, service, and gratitude.
Carondelet students learn the skills they need to make their faith actionable, picking up on the traditions handed down to us by the Sisters of St. Joseph in addressing problems that matter in our divided, complex world. Our curriculum helps our students to identify what it means to live with Heart, Faith, Courage, and Excellence; we integrate these measures into all aspects of the school with the expectation that our students will graduate ready to make a positive difference in the world.
A supportive and inclusive learning environment
Carondelet’s learning environment helps students acquire the skills they will need for an ever-changing future. In class, students actively use creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills. Outside the classroom, our extensive list of extra-curriculars, top-performing sports teams, educational travel opportunities, and college counseling give students opportunities to expand their experiences and expertise.
Carondelet families become part of our special and supportive sisterhood that creates a community which motivates each of our students to aim higher, take on new challenges, and feel part of something greater than herself. This includes providing extraordinary and individualized college and career guidance that starts in their freshman year and supports them every step of the way.
