AP English Language and Composition challenges students to read and write with precision, insight, and sophistication. Centered on a wide range of nonfiction texts – including essays, journalism, speeches, and visual media – students explore how language shapes meaning, argument, and perspective. Through sustained analytical, rhetorical, and argumentative writing, they refine their ability to interpret complex ideas, construct persuasive arguments, and communicate with clarity and nuance. The course emphasizes the critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning, and rhetorical skills essential for success in college and beyond. Students are expected to complete the course and take the AP English Language and Composition Exam in May.
Note: summer reading requirement for this course will be announced in the spring via the Carondelet/De La Salle website.
