Bound for Notre Dame: Gigi Carrie ’26 Pursues Her Passion for Computer Science

Senior Gigi Carrie will attend the University of Notre Dame on a full four-year scholarship this fall. “I’m most excited to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new experiences,” says Gigi. “I’m looking forward to things like college football games, snowy Christmases, and all the unique opportunities that Notre Dame has to offer.”

“I plan to major in computer science,” Gigi says. “I’ve always been drawn to technology, and I love how programming offers so many different languages and applications. I’ve taken every computer science course available to me. While I am still exploring the specific path I want to pursue after college, I’m confident that my future will be in the tech industry.”

When applying to colleges, Gigi applied through QuestBridge, a program that connects students with some of the nation’s top colleges. “To apply through QuestBridge, I first had to submit an application early in my senior year to become a finalist,” shares Gigi. “Once I was selected as a finalist, my application was sent to the colleges I chose. When I found out I was accepted into Notre Dame, it took some time for the reality to sink in, but once it did, I felt an overwhelming sense of relief and excitement.”

“I’m incredibly grateful for my parents, who encouraged me to do my best in everything I pursue,” says Gigi. “I’d also like to thank my older sister, Nicki, who has made my time at Carondelet especially memorable. Additionally, all of the teachers at Carondelet were consistently willing to offer their guidance and support whenever I needed it.”

Gigi offers some advice for students going through the college application process: “My advice would be to just go for it. Take the college tour, apply to the super competitive Ivy, or the unique art school, and write the dreaded personal essay. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and try new things. At the same time, give yourself grace throughout the process–it can be stressful, and not everything will go perfectly. You will never know what opportunities might come your way unless you take that chance.”
