Advent Project 2022: “Three Kings, Three Books”

The Advent season is the four weeks leading up to Christmas, starting straight after Thanksgiving. During this time we prepare our hearts for Jesus to enter our lives.

Just as Mary and Joseph prepared themselves for the birth of Jesus, we prepare ourselves to receive Jesus into our hearts again at Christmas. Advent is a time for waiting and getting ready for the coming of Jesus by giving back, helping others, and reflecting on our year.

We are partnering with the Children’s Book Project, an organization that focuses on bringing books to children and teens to create equity in literacy, learning, and life.

2022 SLC Advent Project to benefit the Children’s Book Project

The Advent season is the four weeks leading up to Christmas, starting straight after thanksgiving. During this time we prepare our hearts for Jesus to enter our lives. Just as Mary and Joseph prepared themselves for the birth of Jesus, we prepare ourselves to receive Jesus into our hearts again at Christmas. Advent is a time for waiting and getting ready for the coming of Jesus by giving back, helping others, and reflecting on our year.

Through the story of the birth of Jesus, a new chapter was opened in our world and in our lives. This year, our Advent project is called “Three Kings Three Books”, and connects to the story of the three kings who brought gifts to baby Jesus. We are partnering with the Children’s Book Project, an organization that focuses on bringing books to children and teens to create equity in literacy, learning, and life. We are also partnering with Community Organizer and Carondelet Junior, Caroline Lee, who has been an advocate and organizer with the Contra Costa County community for years to increase children’s literacy.

In addition to bringing awareness to our school community on the importance of equitable access to literature and literacy skills, we are holding a book donation drive for The Children’s Book Project and Monument Crisis Center! Similar to how Jesus received the 3 gifts from the Magi, each of us is invited to bring 3 books! We hope that through this project, we can open our hearts to those in our community who are in need of help during this season of giving!

Donations will be collected in bookcases in the Inner Court until Dec. 12, 2022. Please make sure that all donated items are new or like-new (like-new means no bent/torn pages, writing, or worn binding, please).
