Nancy O’Malley, ’71

Nancy O’Malley ’71 served as the Alameda County District Attorney from September 2009 to her retirement in January 2023. The first woman to serve, she is a nationally recognized expert in issues involving violence against women and persons with disabilities, child abuse, and human trafficking. One of Nancy’s passion projects was the creation of the Alameda County Family Justice Center, which has provided thousands of victims of violence with a range of services for more than 20 years. The Center has received numerous awards for excellence and is a model for communities across the country. Nancy is the most awarded District Attorney in California, receiving awards even from the US Congress, and is the only prosecutor to receive the prestigious American Bar Association Margaret Brent Award of Excellence of which Hillary Clinton was the first recipient. As the second oldest of eight children and a proud product of a Catholic school education, Nancy brings her wealth of experience and desire to empower young women to her role on the Carondelet Board of Trustees.
