Carondelet Basketball defeated Sage Hill of Newport Beach with a thrilling 51-48 victory at the Sacramento Kings’ Golden 1 Center to capture the 2025 CIF Division I State Championship! This historic win marks another monumental achievement in Carondelet’s rich tradition of athletic excellence.
Head Coach Kelly Sopak, who reached a remarkable milestone of 500 career wins earlier this season (now at 516), reflected on the team’s journey, highlighting their dedication, resilience, and unity.
“I told the team they have a chance to leave a legacy that will last for the rest of their lives,” Sopak shared. “They’ll put up a banner in the gym, and they’ll be considered one of the greatest teams in school history.”
Throughout the postseason, memories of Carondelet’s legendary 2004 CIF State Championship basketball team were ever-present. The opportunity to welcome members of that team back to campus to celebrate alongside our current student-athletes—and to recognize them in front of the entire school community—was a full-circle moment that beautifully illustrated the enduring sisterhood, tradition, and excellence of Carondelet Basketball.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible basketball student-athletes, dedicated coaching staff, supportive families, and the entire Carondelet community. This championship is a shared accomplishment and a proud milestone in our school’s basketball legacy. We look forward to building on this success in the years ahead.
Go Cougars!
