Makenna graduated from Long Beach State with a major in Communication Studies and a minor in Dance. During college, she was a member of the D1 dance team, worked with the Universal Dance Association (UDA) traveling nationwide to teach and assist in competitions, and studied abroad in Denmark as part of a corporate communications program.

After graduation, Makenna joined Capella Space, a cutting-edge startup specializing in national security and Earth observation through SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellites. She began as a Recruiting Coordinator and climbed the ranks through hard work and dedication to become the Recruiting Operations Manager. In this role, she oversees recruitment functions, aids in headcount planning, and serves as a compensation specialist, contributing significantly to the company’s growth and success.

In 2021, Makenna pursued her passion for dance on a grand stage by auditioning for the Las Vegas Raiderettes. Out of more than 600 applicants, she earned a coveted spot on the team and cheered for the Raiders for two seasons. She performed at high-profile events such as the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, F1 Las Vegas, and Las Vegas Aces games. Makenna also collaborated with renowned artists like Too Short and Warren G. Living in Las Vegas and performing at Allegiant Stadium are unforgettable experiences that she holds dear.

Continuing her deep-rooted connection to dance, Makenna returned home to take on a more active role at her family’s dance studio, The DA Dance Center (formerly D’Ann’s Academy of Dance), founded by her grandmother in 1978. The studio is now managed by her mother, and Makenna teaches and choreographs in her spare time, helping young dancers grow both as performers and individuals. Supporting her family’s legacy has been a fulfilling and meaningful part of her journey.

After moving back home, Makenna set her sights on another prestigious goal—auditioning for the Golden State Warriors Dance Team. She was one of only four rookies selected, making this season a dream come true. She performed with the San Francisco Ballet, collaborated with artists like Saweetie, E-40, and En Vogue, and recently showcased her talent at the NBA All-Star Game. With performances at over 30 home games, community events, and rigorous practices, she continues to shine on and off the court.

Despite juggling multiple responsibilities, Makenna finds joy in traveling, spending time with family and friends, and doting on her beloved dog, Obi. Managing three demanding roles requires exceptional time management—a skill she began developing at Carondelet while balancing dance team commitments, studio training, schoolwork, and social life. Her journey has been marked by sacrifice and hard work, but looking back, she is immensely proud of the effort and dedication that have brought her to where she is today.

Makenna Zimmerman’s story is one of resilience, passion, and an unwavering commitment to her dreams, proving that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
