The Carondelet varsity water polo team had a busy end to last week, playing a total of six games over a three-day span. The weekend included an East Bay Athletic League game against San Ramon Valley on Thursday, then five games in the Sierra Shootout on Friday and Saturday.
After falling to San Ramon Valley on Thursday, the Cougars traveled to Loomis, Calif., to complete in the Sierra Shootout. Beginning at 10 am on Friday, the Cougars posted three victories during round robin play to advance to the tournament's championship bracket.
Carondelet opened the tournament against the host team, Del Oro High School, and the Cougars rolled to a 9-0 victory. In the afternoon, the Cougars posted an 8-4 win over win over Foothill, before closing the first day of competition with a 7-4 victory over El Capitan.
On championship Saturday, the Cougars ran into a pair of teams from Fresno, Calif. Carondelet lost to Buchanan HS in the semifinals, 5-2, then in the third place game, the Cougars suffered an 8-4 loss to Clovis North. In what was a very successful tournament for the Cougars, Carondelet posted a fourth place finish in the two-day tournament.
This week, Carondelet will host Amador Valley on Tuesday, with the JV game at 4 pm and the varsity game at 5 pm, at De La Salle High School. The Cougars close the week with road games at Liberty HS on Thursday, with varsity starting at 4 pm and the JV team playing at 5 pm.
