Volleyball Loses in NCS Semifinals at Bishop O'Dowd in Straight Sets

Cougars lose to Demons in three, but qualify for NorCal playoffs

Oakland, Calif. (Nov. 9, 2017) – In the semifinal round of the 2017 NCS/Les Schwab Tires Division II Girls' Volleyball Championship, the fifth-seeded Carondelet varsity volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 19-25) loss to the top-seeded Bishop O'Dowd Dragons on Wednesday night.

Bishop O'Dowd controlled the match from the outset, jumping out to a 15-8 lead early in the first set, before closing out the game 25-20 to take a 1-0 lead. With the score tied 20-20 in the second set, the Dragons ran off five straight points to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The third set was a tough battle from beginning to end, but Bishop O'Dowd closed out the Cougars 25-19 to win the match in straight sets.

Although the Cougars lost in the third round of the NCS Playoffs, their season may not be over. With its NCS semifinal finish, Carondelet has qualified for the 2017 CIF State Division II Volleyball Championships. The Cougars will have to wait until Sunday, Nov. 12, to see if their season will continue.
