Varsity Basketball Opens 2017-18 Season with a 2-1 Record at Mats Tip-Off Classic

The Carondelet varsity basketball team began its season last weekend, when it participated in the Mats Tip-off Classic, hosted by Miramonte High School on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

In the three-day event, Carondelet played games against Oregon City High School (Thursday), Brookside Christian High School (Friday) and St. Joseph Notre Dame (Saturday), posting a 2-1 record.

In the Cougars opening game, Carondelet posted a 14-point (63-49) win over the Pioneers. Carondelet led 42-19 at halftime, before cruising to the double-digit victory.

In the second game, Carondelet fell behind, 14-12, after the first quarter to Brookside Christian. After outscoring the Knights 15-9 in the second quarter, the Cougars held a 27-23 lead at halftime. Carondelet outscored Brookside Christian 30-15 in the second half to post the 19-point victory.

In the third game of the Tip-off Classic, Carondelet suffered its first loss of the season, a 55-54 loss to St. Joseph Notre Dame of Alameda. The Cougars trailed 33-26 at halftime, and 38-44 after three, before eventually losing by one-point to the Pilots.

Carondelet's next game will be against Sacred Heart on Saturday, December 16. The game will be played at Presentation High School in San Jose, as part of the Presentation Classic. The game between the Cougars and Fightin' Irish is scheduled to begin at 2:30 pm.
