One Billion Rising Week and Respect Initiative

A Message From the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are looking forward to our annual One Billion Rising week that begins on February 5, where students focus on violence prevention against women worldwide. We have a number of events planned, including a presentation by Contra Costa County Deputy District Attorney Paul Graves, who will speak to students on February 8 about issues of sexual assault awareness and intervention.

Jackson Katz, founder of the Mentors in Violence Prevention, will also be on campus for a parent education night hosted at De La Salle on the evening of February 15. This is a shared parent education event for both our Carondelet and De La Salle communities and all are encouraged to attend. Please RSVP here.

Mr. Katz is internationally renowned for his pioneering scholarship and activism on issues of gender, race and violence. Mr. Katz will also be leading faculty and staff from both schools in professional development workshops on February 16. Additionally, we have reached out to a bystander project organization that has expressed a desire to partner with Carondelet on creating programming and intervention training over the course of the spring semester

We continue to partner with De La Salle to discuss respectful behavior and our expectations related to student interactions both on and off campus. The administrations from both schools met with student leadership from both campuses three times during the fall semester, and we will have another lunchtime meeting for all interested students in the De La Salle theater on Friday, January 26. We will continue this dialogue and continue to explore ways for all students to interact in a positive, respectful way, knowing that this is a conversation that must be ongoing and must include our students and adults from both campuses.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.
