Concord, Calif. – In May, the Carondelet athletic department presented its annual awards. The Carondelet Athlete of the Year is presented to the most outstanding athlete of the academic school year. This individual is a confident and accomplished young woman who consistently pursues the highest levels of excellence. She is a leader on and off the playing field, and her clear sense of purpose has helped to grow the program and the sport itself.

Mikayla Scott embodied those attributes on the track, in the classroom and on the campus. She competed in the 100 and 200 meter dash events and on the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. During her very successful senior season, she qualified for the CIF State Championships in all four events. She became the first runner in school history to break the 12-second mark in the 100-meter dash and the 25-second mark in the 200-meter dash, when she set school record with times of 11.86 and 24.25, respectively, at the Arcadia Invitational on April 8. She then broke her school records, with NCS Tri-Valley meet record times of 11.76 in the 100 meters and 24.07 in the 200 meters. She also placed first in all four of her events at the EBAL Championships and the NCS Tri-Valley Championships.

The Senior Athlete of the Year Award is presented to a member of the senior class who has made the most significant impact on the Carondelet athletic program over their time at the school. This individual is an exceptional athlete, teammate and ambassador for the game. She honors the Carondelet values of character, excellence, citizenship and pride, and she has made a lasting impression on her team, her program and her school.

In her three years on the varsity basketball team, she helped the Cougars post a perfect 54-0 record against EBAL opponents. As a member of the softball team, she helped the Cougars advance to three NCS Championship appearances, including a second round finish this past season. During her time at Carondelet, she was a three-year varsity letter winner in basketball and two-year varsity letter winner in softball.
