Cougars tie for third, but lose tie-breaker
Roseville, Calif. (November 6, 2017) – The Carondelet golf team posted a score of 388 (+23) and finished tied for third at the 2017 CIF/NCGA NorCal Girls Golf Championships. Although the Cougars finished third, they will not advance to next week's state championships after losing the tie-breaker to Dougherty Valley.
Carondelet's score of 388 was five shots behind tournament champion Valley Christian and just one shot behind second place Granite Bay. The Cougars shared third place with Dougherty Valley, but lost the tie-breaker to the Wildcats. The tie-breaker was decided by the scores of the sixth player for each team. DVHS's sixth player posted a score of 83, which was four shots better than Carondelet's sixth player.
Cougars' freshman Madelyn Gamble advanced to the CIF/NCGA State Championships as an individual qualifier. Gamble posted a posting a score of even-par 73, finishing tied for fifth overall at the Sierra View Country Club. Senior Annika Borrelli finished tied for 14th place with a round of 77 (+4), and tie for the last individual qualifying position. However, Borrelli also came out of the wrong side of the individual tie-breaker, and did not advance to next week's state championships.
Freshman Madison Wu carded an 18-hole score of 78 (+5) at the par73, 5,723-yard golf course, to finish tied for 22nd, senior Angela Bagasbas shot 79 (+6) to finish tied for 28, sophomore Carissa Wu shot 81 (+8) to tie for 40th, and junior Courtney Gaoiran shot 87 (+14) to finish tied for 58th.
Gamble will play in next week's CIF/NCGA Girls Golf State Championships, which will be played at the Poppy Hills Golf Course in Monterey, Calif., on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
