Cougars Defeat Heritage 71-58 for Second Straight Division I Title
Concord, Calif. (March 3, 2018) – In the final game of the 2018 NCS/Les Schwab Tires Division I Girls Basketball Championships, Carondelet defeated Heritage High School, 71-58, at Saint Mary's College on Friday night.
With the victory, the Cougars earned their third straight NCS Championship, and 13th in the last 16 years. The win also marked the second straight NCS Division I Championship, as Carondelet also defeated Heritage in the 2017 championship game.

Carondelet got off to a slow start and trailed the Patriots 16-8 after the first quarter. The Cougars clawed back in the second quarter, outscoring Heritage 20-11 to take a one-point lead (28-27) at halftime.
Ali Bamberger was vital to the Carondelet first-half comeback, as she scored 17 of her game-high 28 points in the first half. Bamberger scored 13 of the Cougars' 20 points in the second quarter.
The Cougars continued to slowly separate from the Patriots in the second half, outscoring Heritage 20-14 in the third, to hold a seven-point lead (48-41) heading into the fourth quarter. Heritage got as close at three points (61-58) last in the fourth quarter, before Carondelet ran off the final 10 points of the game for a 71-58 victory.
Carondelet's Erica Miller scored 13 points, as she hit three big 3-pointers for the Cougars. Tatyana Modawar finished in double figures with 10 points.
The Cougars will now wait to see what their seed and who their opponent will be on the CIF NorCal State Playoffs. The tournament bracket will be announced on Sunday, March 4 on the CIF website at CIFState.org.
