Big History covers the history of our universe from its origin to the present, and culminates with a look towards the future. Central to the course is a study of the rise of human civilization and how humans are situated within the largest scope of physical existence. Big History connects the story of humanity within broader contexts by integrating the knowledge of cosmology, geology, anthropology, biology, history, and the humanities into one cohesive approach to looking at the history of the universe. Origin stories are explored within the context of religious and scientific traditions. Special emphasis is given to critical thinking, written, and oral argumentation. Content and assignments included in the curriculum make interdisciplinary connections between Big History and Big Voices, its English companion course.
