In this collaborative, project-based course, students learn and hone broadcast media skills as they produce a wide range of content that will be publicly shared with the Carondelet community. Projects include short-form audio and video pieces in a variety of genres including newscasts, documentaries, interviews, editorials, investigative journalism, entertainment, commercials, and live broadcasts.
Students get hands-on experience with the creative side of production (concept development, storyboarding, scriptwriting), the technical aspects of media production (camera, lighting, sound, project management), on-camera presentation and reporting skills, and how to use editing and special effects in post-production to create a polished final product.
A significant portion of the produced content will center around the Carondelet community, and students will collaborate closely with other classes, clubs, athletics, ASB Leadership, and other campus groups. This means that students will be expected to occasionally capture content outside of the class period in order to complete their production assignments. Personal reflection and collaborative feedback will be heavily emphasized, and all students are expected to produce and publish a portfolio of their work each semester.
