CONCORD, CA, July 19, 2021—Principal Kevin Cushing is pleased to announce the hiring of Piper Brewster as the new Director of Athletics at Carondelet High School.
Brewster comes to Carondelet after serving her alma mater, Saint Mary’s College of California, since 2010 as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. There, Brewster acted as sport supervisor for five teams, overseeing all aspects of budgeting, fundraising, and staff management. As a lawyer and the senior compliance officer, she oversaw all athletic scholarship distribution, eligibility certification, and compliance for 16 Division I sports, acted as department liaison to admissions and financial aid departments, and collaborated consistently with the college counsel and President.
“We conducted a thorough national search for the right person to elevate the success and visibility of Carondelet’s stellar athletics program and are excited to welcome Piper as our new Athletics Director,” said Cushing. “Piper will have an immediate positive impact leading our athletics department that provides a unique experience where student-athletes enjoy developing athletic abilities concurrently with the highest standards of scholarship, leadership, sportsmanship, and school tradition. Piper’s professional experience, communication style, and personality are a perfect fit.”
Brewster’s vision for Carondelet is to utilize her collegiate athletics background to deepen the student-athlete experience and broaden students’ future opportunities.
“I’m excited to come to an all-girls school,” Brewster said. “There have been many times in my career in sports administration where I’ve been the only woman in the room. I intend to lead by example with the young women at Carondelet and demonstrate that you can be a confident woman no matter the industry you go into or what position you hold. There shouldn’t be anything holding you back and you can be confident with an equal voice in the room.”
Brewster attended Justin-Siena High School in Napa, participated on the cheer and dance teams, and cherishes her high school academic and spiritual experiences.
“I always felt that having that foundation influenced everything else in my life. And that’s what drew me to Carondelet. I feel like the educational and extracurricular experience that young women have here creates a strong foundation that will mold them for the rest of their lives. Getting to be part of that experience will be really special.”
Brewster earned a Juris Doctor from John F. Kennedy University and has been admitted to the State Bar of California. She also earned her Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Sports Management and Business Administration degrees from Saint Mary’s College of California.
Carondelet sponsors 36 teams participating in 18 sports, with approximately 500 athletes competing each year. In 2018, the Carondelet Athletics Complex opened at the former Valley Vista Racquet Club site in Walnut Creek with dedicated facilities for seven sports.
Brewster assumes her role as Athletics Director on Monday, July 19, 2021.
