Earth Day Comes Early

Article written by Laura Bocek '20.

This past week Carondelet celebrated Earth Week a little early because Earth Day will come during our spring break. Carondelet started by hosting a sustainable bake sale and raised $218 dollars for the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).

Thank you to the class councils and ASB for assisting the Green Team to support the vital conservation efforts of the WWF.
Monday was Conscientious Consumer Day: Fifth period classes turned off their lights for a blackout to raise awareness of electricity use.
Tuesday was Speak for Sustainability: Students gathered in the Inner Court to hear their fellow students and teachers give one to two minute speeches on any topic. While the Speak for Sustainability event happened, listeners could make sustainable collages to raise awareness about any environmental issue they saw.
Wednesday was the First Annual Sustainability Expo. Students enjoyed a presentation from the Lindsey Wildlife Museum on Sustainable Food Choices. Students also received the opportunity to talk with local companies about the work they do and the impact of Eco-friendly companies. Thank you to all of our companies who attended: Clean Vibes, Sungrade Solar, The Lindsey Wildlife Museum, and Concord Services. A special thanks goes to Wisdom Supply Co. for generously donating reusable straws, reusable cutlery kits, and sustainable school supplies.
Friday was Kahoot in the Garaventa Center: Kahoot showed students some of the most shocking facts about climate change. Thank you to all the students and staff who willingly participated in Earth Week activities!

Though Carondelet celebrated Earth Week this past week, we want to emphasize that every week is Earth Week.
