Water Polo Defeats St. Patrick-St. Vincent 18-5 in NCS Division II Playoffs

Cougars to host Bishop O'Dowd in Second Round on Saturday

Concord, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2017) – In the opening round of the 2017 NCS/Les Schwab Tires Division II Girls' Water Polo Championship, the top-seeded Carondelet varsity water polo team posted an 18-5 victory over St. Patrick-St. Vincent on Wednesday night at the De La Salle pool.

Carondelet took an early lead in the game, holding a 4-1 advantage after the first period. The Cougars outscored the Bruins 4-1 in the second period as well, to hold an 8-2 lead at halftime. Carondelet continued to extend its lead in the second half, where it outscored SPVHS 10-3 over the final 14 minutes, to close out the game with an 18-5 victory.

Kelsey Morris led the Cougars with five goals, scoring at least once in each period. Madi Ohrman, Marissa Ennis, Annie Zapata and Sophia Riva had two goals each. In goal for Carondelet, Alex Brown recorded seven saves, while allowing three goals before coming out of the game early into the fourth period.

The Cougars' second round opponent will be ninth-seeded Bishop O'Dowd. The Demons opened the 2017 NCS/Les Schwab Tires Division II Girls' Water Polo Championship with a 2-0 victory at Northgate. The game between Carondelet and Bishop O'Dowd will be played on Saturday, Nov. 4, at De La Salle. The game time will be determined after Thursday's NCS schedule is completed.
